berlinbelle in memphis_c_art

I notice no one has posted in here for ages, but...
I am applying to MCA for Fall 07 and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me anytinhg about the college that isn't really in the viewbook? I won't be able to visit, so I just want to get a student perspective. I'm going to be a photography major. Mostly I want to know things about the social aspect of the school (how the student body gets along, is it easy to make friends, are people cliquish, is this a "party school") how the professors are, and how is the workload? Oh! and is there a cafeteria, the viewbook was kind of ambiguous? It said something about a cafe I think. If there is, are there a lot of (vegetarian) options? Sorry for all the questions but thanks in advance for any answers.

memphis college of art

Hello I attended memphis college of art from fall 01-fall 05. I have to say that that school is probably one of the worst art schools you could attend. There is no inspiration, the professors are not interested in thier jobs, students or ART. I was a great student and worked very hard, I graduated with honors and still I feel that my education is very weak. The student body is not an outgoing one, and by no means is it a "party school". I would highly suggest you take some time off and find a school in a city with a strong art community. Memphis has the worst art scene in the country. In fact there is no art scene. The racial tension in midtown is so strong it is unbelievable. Everyone is ignorant and self centered. Also one thing to know is that they give EVERYONE a scholorship. Every single person I knew in that school had a scholorship. That is how they get people to go there. Dont waist your time and money going there. You will hate the city and your expensive education will be poor at best.
I feel I waisted ALOT of money and the best years of my life in that city and school. Dont make the same mistrake I made. I would suggest you consider a school in a city that has a strong art community like NY, Chicago, San Francisco, or L.A.
You love art right? Go somewhere that your love will be nurtured.
